Allegany American Legion Monthly Dinner

5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

The Allegany American Legion will host their Monthly Dinner on Tuesday, October 28, from 5pm until sold out, at 4350 Rt. 417, Allegany. They will be serving chicken & biscuits featuring vegetables, salad and desert. The cost is $15 each, and includes coffee and juice. Dine in or take out options are available. 2025 Girls Youth Basketball

3:00 pm - 5:30 pm

The City of Olean Youth and Recreation Department’s Girls Youth Basketball season is getting started. The schedule breaks down as follows:

Registration:  October 20-31 from 3-5:30pm at the former St. Johns School, 921 North Union Street. The cost is $30 per player, due at sign-ups.

Player evaluation:

4th Grade: Monday, November 3 at 6pm

5th Grade: Monday, November 3 at 7pm

6th Grade: Tuesday, November 4 at 6pm

Practices:

Monday, November 10 through Thursday, November 13: Two practices at 6pm and 7pm

November 17 through December 17: One practice per week, either Tuesday or Thursday at 6pm or 7pm

Games: November 17 through December 17, Mondays and Wednesdays, at 6pm or 7pm

Volunteer coaches are also needed! There will be a coaches meeting on Thursday, November 6, at 6pm.

Olean Area Farmers Market

9:00 am - 1:00 pm

The Olean Area Farmers Market is open for the season, in Olean’s Lincoln Park.  There are new hours this year, with the Market open from 9am-1pm on Saturdays.  The Market offers a wide variety of locally-produced products, from food to flowers and crafts.  The Market offers a credit card terminal, and will accept SNAP EBT Cards.  The Olean Farmer’s Market participates in the FreshConnect $2 Check Program, allowing SNAP Benefits users to double their money.  The Market only accepts farmers and crafter who produce their own products.  The Market will run through November 1, with two special holiday markets at Thanksgiving and Christmas.  More information can be found by contacting Rita Schichtel at:  farmersmarketofolean@gmail.com.

Salamanca Pumpkin Smash Event

10:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Salamanca Central School District and the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cattaraugus County are sponsoring a Pumpkin Smash event on Saturday, November 1, from 10-noon, at the corner of Front and Fern Avenues.  Bring your hollowed out pumpkins…and the smashing tools will be provided.  Please make sure there are no candles, lights or plastic decorations in the pumpkins.  The Cooperative Extension will be handing out composting information at the event.

Olean Pumpkin Smashing Event

10:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Olean City School District, Canticle Farm and the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cattaraugus County will sponsor a pumpkin smashing event on Saturday, November 1, from 10-noon, at Canticle Farm, 3809 Old State Road in Allegany.  Smashing tools will be provided…make sure your hollowed-out pumpkins are free of seeds, candles, and plastic decorations.  The smashed pumpkins will go into community composting at Canticle Farm.  Come and learn about composting on Saturday, November 1!
